Sustainability Speak

Sustainability Speak

Here are Homemade, we don’t take ourselves too seriously.  We offer free virtual cooking events every week, hosted by the most talented and entertaining chefs on the planet.  But one thing we do take seriously is sustainability.  Every ingredient we use in cooking has a major impact on the health of our planet.  Not only are we mindful of our ingredients, but we are mindful when it comes to selecting partners.  It is important for us to source sustainably produced foods and work with partners that share our same passion for sustainable food, for the health and future of our environment.

Crab Cakes

One of our partners that has been with us from the very beginning of Homemade is The Nature Conservancy.  The Nature Conservancy is taking on the planet’s biggest, most important challenges when it comes to the health of our planet.  All of our free, virtual cooking events support the Nature Conservancy and the amazing work that they do to support sustainability.

Lamb Burger

Another one of our proud partners is American LambAmerican Lamb supports the nation’s shepherds and their families and helps to sustain working farmland and farm communities. These family farmers and ranchers throughout the U.S. are passionate about providing high quality, flavorful lamb in a way that sustains the industry, supports local communities, and preserves land and resources for future generations.  Our free, virtual cooking event with American Lamb is coming up this Thursday @ 4pm PT / 7pm ET - head on over to withHomemade.com to register today!

Fish Tacos

Efforts being made to increase awareness around sustainability stretches far beyond land . . . to the sea!  Cooking and eating seafood purchased from a reliable source is key to ensuring the sustainability of the world’s seafood.  Check out this Sustainable Seafood Guide over on Oceana.org.    You just pick your region and they’ll provide you with sustainable seafood recommendations for your area (there’s even an app).  We’ve got a couple of free seafood cooking events coming up.  On Thursday 5/27 @ 4pm PT / 7pm ET, we’re makin’ Grilled Fish Tacos and Pineapple Chiller with Chef Joel and our buddies at Global.  Then on Monday June 3 @ 4pmPT / 7pm ET, we’re making The Ultimate Crab Cake  with Old Bay Aioli with Chef Lindsay.

We’re all about sustainability, all the time.  So why are we particularly excited this week . . . June is coming!  And you know what that means - it’s almost World Pollinators Month!  Woot woot!  These are important little creatures in our world.  Many crops rely on pollinating insects  (including hummingbirds, bees, butterflies, moths and more) to produce seeds or fruits.  Three quarters of the world’s crops require pollination to thrive.  We would be lost without these little guys, the least we could do is dedicate a month to celebrate them all.  Here are some ways you can help and learn more!  You can donate to The Nature Conservancy, create your own Pollinator Paradise, and sign a Pledge to Help Pollinators Survive.  Save the bees!

We’re all in this together guys.  Homemade, our beloved partners, and YOU!  We all need to do our part to take the best care of our planet as possible.  Being aware and supportive of sustainability champions is a fantastic place to start!
